Engineering Advancement Office Student Assistant Position

 EAO Student Assistant - Job Description


The Corporate and Foundation Relations team in the Engineering Advancement Office is looking for an hourly student assistant. Candidates should be energetic self-starters with an enthusiastic and positive approach to work; who are willing to take initiative and learn quickly. Candidates with a strong interest in storytelling is a plus. This position is paid hourly and will last the duration of the Fall and Spring semesters, with potential to continue into the Summer and following academic year. 


Student assistants will assist with administrative tasks including but not limited to composing communications (letter, emails, briefing memos), flyers/announcements, and other captivating content highlighting impact (graphics, data visualization, templates, student stories). Assist with event planning including creating event stationary, assisting in event coordination, event set-up and breakdown. Research and compile stakeholder profiles via social media platforms, databases, and other source material. The candidate must have good written and communication skills, high attention to detail and organizational skills. They must be able to work with a variety of people, meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize projects.


Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Assist with event planning, promotion, set-up and breakdown; could require attendance at events not during normal business hours (these hours are volunteer and can be in addition to normal schedule)

  • Assist with various administrative tasks as they arise

  • Assist with prospect and donor research, including, but not limited to, briefings, strategy documents, and contact reports

  • Support the creation and distribution of the Corporate and Foundation Relations quarterly newsletter 

  • Use Asana to track and collaborate on tasks with team members

  • Other projects to be assigned on as needed basis 


Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be a student currently enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park

  • Excellent written and grammatical skills

  • High attention to detail 

  • Accurate data entry

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides); is also willing to learn new technology as needed

  • Possess tact and professionalism when communicating with the university’s highest level of stakeholders

  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality


Background Preferences:

  • Preferred major: business, public policy, communications, engineering, or related fields 

  • Interest in philanthropy, corporate partnerships, higher education, or nonprofit work 

  • Experience with Canva or graphic design platform 

  • Available 6-8 hours per week (2 shifts of 3-4 hours) during the academic year, with flexibility during key Corporate Partner events
