Workforce Recruitment Program for Students with Disabilities

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is returning this fall! WRP connects college students and recent graduates with disabilities with federal agencies seeking candidates for internships and permanent employment. Selected participants are included in a federal talent database for one year, allowing federal employers to identify and contact candidates based on their skills and qualifications.

Who is eligible?

Current undergraduate or graduate students with disabilities and recent graduates who earned a postsecondary degree on or after April 1, 2024, may apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens eligible for the federal Schedule A hiring authority.

Strengthen Your Work Experience

By participating in WRP, you can:

• Get access to Federal Government jobs and internships nationwide. Employers can contact you directly about positions that match your skills and qualifications.
  
• Participate in career development activities. Take your resume and application to the next level.
  
• Expand your knowledge of Federal Government employment, including the Schedule A hiring authority for people with disabilities.
  
• Explore career and disability services resources at your school to support your WRP application.

The BSOS Suit Yourself Clothing Award provides a one-time $200 award to all current BSOS undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need for professional clothing. The application is brief and easy to complete.

Dress to impress for upcoming professional opportunities, including:

• Career & Internship Fairs at UMD
• Federal Employer Sessions
• Intern for a Day
• View examples of professional attire

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis after the deadline until available funds are exhausted.

*Please note: Students who have previously received a Suit Yourself award are not eligible for a second stipend.

Kick Off the Semester at the NEUR Fall Welcome!

 The Undergraduate Neuroscience Program invites all Neuroscience majors to join us for our NEUR Fall Welcome on Friday, September 4, from 12:30–2:30 p.m. in the Biology Research Building (BRB) Courtyard and Ground Level.

This annual event is a great opportunity to connect with fellow students, meet faculty and staff, and learn about the many resources and opportunities available within the Neuroscience community and across campus.

Like SPACE and need a SCHOLARSHIP? Applications are open for the 2026-27 Maryland Space Grant Scholarships

Applications are open for the 2026-27 Maryland Space Grant Scholarships, with a deadline of May 13, 2026: https://md.spacegrant.org/mdsgc-programs/scholarships/

These scholarships are awarded to full-time STEM majors who are planning to work for NASA or other space-research or aerospace-related careers. 

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and enrolled full-time at UMD. Eligibility requirements also include a 3.0 GPA or better. 

Space Grant puts a strong emphasis on funding students from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in Astronomy, including women, persons of color, veterans, and LGBT+ students.  It's not absolutely certain that NASA will provide funding for this scholarship this year, but the organizers are going forward with recruitment in the hopes that funding will solidify by the summer.  Hopefully this will be ascertained before recipients are selected, which usually happens in July.  

(Please note: if you are in an engineering major, there is a separate Space Grant Scholarship program specifically for engineering - contact your engineering academic advisor to find out about this.)

Awards are typically in the $1k - 2k range and must be used for educational expenses (tuition, books, fees, and room and board). The award is for one year and is renewable annually; current scholarship recipients must re-apply each year.

CMNS Peer Mentor Spring Workshops | Help Us Spread the Word

It’s that time of the semester again - join us for our annual CMNS Peer Mentor Spring Workshop Series. All workshops will be offered on Zoom.

Spring 2026 Drop-In Advising:

Neuroscience Advisors will be available for drop ins on Tuesdays 10:30am - 11:30am and Thursdays 2:30pm - 3:30pm in the Neuroscience Advising Suite (1107 BPS). 

Students will be seen on a first come, first serve basis, and it is okay if you do not meet with your specific advisor.

Please note: These meetings are meant to be brief, and should last approximately 10-15 minutes.

*The Neuroscience Advising Suite will be closed on Wednesdays, from approximately 10:00am to 11:30am for staff meetings.

Drop-In Advising should be used to for questions/concerns about:

• Your Spring 2026 schedule and classes
• Academic policies on grading method, add/drop/withdraw
• High Credit Load Request

The Feller Center has a six-part workshop series to help BSOS undergraduates approach jobs, internships, and graduate school with confidence and purpose. Attend one session or all to gain practical strategies, overcome common barriers, and position yourself as a strong candidate employers want.

Career Conversation Series

The Career Conversations Series aims to help CMNS students in earth, space, life, and physical science majors to develop the skills they need to advance their career development journey. The first event in the series, Pitching Your Major to Employers, will help you make the most of your experience at the Fall Career & Internship Fair and future networking events. 

What to expect: 

• The UCC@CMNS team will provide you with the tools to confidently network with employers at the fair.
• We'll start with a short presentation about the elevator pitch and tips to perfect it.
• You will also have the opportunity to practice your pitch and ask questions

BSOS Peer Mentor Application

The BSOS Peer Mentor Program is a component of the services the Feller Center Advising Center in BSOS offered to students. Through their service to fellow students, Peer Mentors gain valuable skills in public speaking/presentation, professionalism, and leadership. Peer Mentors primarily facilitate BSOS Graduation Planning Workshops each semester and conduct various presentations in BSOS UNIV100 and BSOS361 classes. In preparation for these activities, all new Peer Mentors attend a mandatory class session once a week for their first semester as a Peer Mentor.  All applicants are expected to serve for a minimum of two semesters.  The program will be held in person once weekly.  

Peer Mentors earn one graded academic credit after each successfully completed semester.

Eligibility Criteria:
• Must be a BSOS major
• Intent to return to the University in Spring 2026
• At least a 2.5 GPA  
• Must be in good judicial/academic standing

• Accepting scholarships at the Scholarship Award Ceremony.

• 3 Gold scholarships will be reserved for Vietnamese students from Vietnam, who have been accepted to the above 10 U.S. universities.

Each scholarship will be $3,000 annually (Diamond Prize), $2000 annually (Gold Prize). The top scholar will be awarded $5,000 (Platinum Prize).

The scholarship is renewable annually for up to 4 years, for students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

Chemistry finals review sessions with OMSE Tutoring

The Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education has your back with chemistry finals review sessions on December 12 & 15.

Tutors will assist you in navigating relevant topics and questions, aiding in your final exam preparation.

Seats are first-come, first-served. Please come early to ensure you have a seat. Rooms have a maximum capacity of 35-50 students.
