The undergraduate Neuroscience program recognizes the importance of Juneteenth and the desperate need to ensure that Black lives matter.
Juneteenth (June 19th) commemorates the day in 1865 when a group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were emancipated from the institution of slavery. This news came two and a half years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
We especially encourage our non-Black students, faculty, and staff to learn more about the significance of Juneteenth and reflect on our role in addressing structural anti-Black racism in the United States and on our campus.
