The Department of Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University is recruiting motivated students who are interested in pursuing a PhD in Cognitive Science.
Our program provides a unique opportunity to tackle questions about the mind and brain in a theoretically‐motivated, interdisciplinary environment that has a number of foci, including language, visual cognition, psycholinguistics, cognitive neuropsychology, and a new track in Computational Cognitive Science at the intersection of these disciplines. More information about our faculty, labs, and research areas can be found on our website. PhD students receive five years of funding which includes full tuition, health insurance, and a competitive 12‐month stipend. Our department is committed to diversity and inclusion, and we strongly encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups. The application deadline is December 1, 2021.
Information Session: Prospective students are encouraged to attend a virtual informational webinar on our PhD program and the application process on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, 2-3 pm EST. Two of our faculty will give a brief overview of the program and then take questions. Register here. The event will be recorded and posted to our admissions page within a few business days.
Application Mentoring: Our current graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are providing one‐on‐one mentoring about the application process, with priority given to prospective students from underrepresented groups. Requests will be accepted until November 15th, but are encouraged by November 5th.
New Funding Opportunity: We are excited to be among the 30+ STEM programs at Johns Hopkins participating in the new Vivien Thomas Scholars Initiative (VTSI), which is dedicated to nurturing, mentoring, and connecting the exceptional diverse talent that exists at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and other minority serving institutions (MSIs) to STEM graduate education and future leadership. Individuals who have attended an HBCU/MSI and are applying to a PhD STEM program are eligible to apply for a Vivien Thomas Scholarship. The VTS supplemental application is integrated into our program application and is due December 1, 2021. VTS applicants receive a full application fee waiver. For more information, see the attached flyer and attend the virtual VTSI Information Session on November 4th, 5 pm EDT. Register here.
