MFRI101 Preparing for Common Emergencies is an approved 2 credit course. As a quick summary the class is designed to help students prevent, prepare for and/or respond to common emergencies.
At the completion of the course students will be able to:
· become certified in Heartsaver First Aid/CPR and AED
· correctly treat a patient with uncontrolled bleeding
· determine and correct common safety hazards in their home
· childproof their home
· determine steps that they can take to travel safely
· safety respond to common emergencies while traveling
· correctly install a car seat in a vehicle
· change a tire on a car
· describe the process for jumping a car battery
· put together a preparedness kit for natural disasters
It will be offered on Wednesdays during the second summer term. It will be 6.5 hours per day with 1/2 hour for lunch. There will be a fair amount of hands-on activities to keep them active during the day.
