Research Assistant - University of Maryland - Baltimore

Job Purpose: To perform biomedical research in the laboratory of Dr Iris Lindberg in the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. To conduct cell biology experiments in the field of neurodegeneration, specifically with reference to the role of natural chaperone proteins in blocking neurodegeneration.  

Daily job responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting cell culture experiments; generating stable cell lines expressing constructs encoding various chaperone forms; examining protection from cytotoxicity due to aggregate expression  
  • Learning molecular biological techniques required to make new chaperone constructs
  • Executing molecular/biochemical analyses of above cell cultures using various molecular techniques, including Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, confocal microscopy, etc.
  • Compiling and analyzing research data using graphics programs  
  • Ordering supplies and performing other organizational duties as assigned
  • Opportunity for manuscript co-authorship is possible depending on experimental success

Education: Bachelor’s degree in any biological or chemical science is required.

Preferred Experience: Six months of college or other biological research laboratory experience

Salary: Full-Time, $42,000
