Abstract
This talk will explore the types of research that are common when working in research firms and the federal government. Dr. Karberg will highlight some of her work at Child Trends and the Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation, including what a typical day in those settings looks like. She will also touch on what experiences and interests led her to nonacademic research, advantages and disadvantages of nonacademic careers, and other words of wisdom for those interested in pursuing nonacademic research.
Short Bio
Elizabeth Karberg is a Social Science Research Analyst at the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation (OPRE). Her work at OPRE focuses on research and evaluation of family support programs and approaches that improve family self-sufficiency. Prior to joining OPRE, she was a Senior Research Scientist at Child Trends, leading projects on parenting and relationship education, fatherhood, family contexts, and early childhood development. Dr. Karberg holds a Ph.D. in Human Development and Quantitative Methodology from The University of Maryland, College Park, an M.A. in Social Sciences from The University of Chicago, and a B.S. in Psychology and Philosophy from The College of William and Mary.
