The Neurotech Justice Accelerator at MGB (NJAM) is currently hiring for postdoctoral fellowship positions.
NJAM, a Dana Center for Neuroscience & Society, is a newly established grant-funded project that will train the next generation of neuroscience and society leaders to improve equitable access to beneficial neurotechnology, protect the public from potential harms, and establish standards to promote responsible societal use of neurotechnology.
NJAM is hiring for three postdoctoral fellowships. These positions will put you on the front lines of neuroethics, neurolaw, and the many intersections of neurotechnology and society.
Fellows will join a dynamic community with NJAM partners at the MGH Dept. of Neurosurgery, Harvard Brain Initiative, Harvard Medical School, Harvard Law School, Center for Law, Brain & Behavior, and Museum of Science. See details below.

About the Positions
NJAM is currently recruiting for three Postdoctoral Senior Fellows. NJAM Senior Fellows will receive mentoring and training from NJAM Director Dr. Theresa Williamson, MD MPH, and NJAM Co-Directors Dr. Gabriel Lázaro-Muñoz, PhD, JD, and Dr. Francis Shen, JD, PhD. All Fellows will participate fully in the work of NJAM, and training will be individually tailored to meet career needs.
We are looking to hire Fellows with experience at the intersection of neuroscience, neurotechnology, society, ethics, and law.
At the completion of the program, Senior Fellows will be well prepared to pursue careers at the intersection of neuroscience and society.
NJAM Fellows will receive working space at the MGB Assembly Row Campus, and will have access to neuroscience and society networks at MGB and Harvard. NJAM Fellows will be expected to both support NJAM projects, and to build an independent portfolio of work.
The PIs value open communication, innovation, and collaboration. Individualized mentorship by the Co-Directors will focus on career development and growth. Other training for Research Fellows includes: Participation in regular lab meetings and journal clubs, opportunities to present work at scientific conferences/meetings, protected time for community outreach, guidance for establishing independent grant funding, and preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts for publication.
The specific responsibilities of the position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Work with the Co-Directors and NJAM staff to pursue research at the intersection of neuroscience and society; develop strong community partnerships; and advocate for neurotechnology justice
Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis related to the research objectives of the project
Work collaboratively on manuscript writing and development
Take leading role on manuscript development in line with career development goals
Assist in establishing timelines, evaluate and revise project plans, and advise on project issues
Assist and lead in preparation of IRB protocols, protocol amendments, continuing reviews, data records, and maintain project personnel IRB compliance documents
Assist in mixed-methods study design
Assist with the development of qualitative and quantitative data collection materials
Assist with data collection and analysis, including quantitative, qualitative, conceptual, and ethical analysis
Take the lead and assist in the preparation of presentations to disseminate the project’s research in local, national, and international meetings
Take the lead and assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication
Support preparation of grant applications, budgets, and progress reports for government agencies such as NIH and NSF, and private foundations, with great attention to detail such as deadlines, formatting, and the grant terms of the sponsoring organization
Draft, edit, and process a wide variety of written materials related to grant-supported research activities, including budget narratives, statements of work, and email correspondence
Perform other duties based on project needs
Basic Qualifications:
Advanced graduate degree (e.g. PhD, MD, JD) in relevant fields such as neuroscience, medicine, law, public health, sociology, anthropology and so forth.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates should have a robust background or potential for research including strong community engagement skills, experience with scientific writing, and a passion for and commitment to health equity.
Applicants should be highly motivated with an ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Due to the in-person community engagement activities associated with this position, the fellow will be required to live in the Greater Boston area and to work in-person regularly on the MGB campus.
