The Department of Family Science at University of Maryland (UMD) School of Public Health (SPH) is pleased to announce the new name of our undergraduate degree program.
Formerly known as the Family Science major, Family Health has been officially approved by UMD and the University System of Maryland.
Why the change? Family Health better showcases the skills and competencies we offer to prospective majors and the unique curriculum as the first Department of Family Science in an accredited School of Public Health. The name change benefits current and future students and enhances the reputation of both our school and university by broadening the umbrella of students who are seeking to improve the health of families in a wide array of professional settings.
The Department of Family Science will remain the home for students seeking careers in the helping, healing and caring professions (i.e., social workers, family therapists, family advocates, case managers, and health professionals such as medicine, nursing, and dentistry).
